RE: Running External Generator While Traveling: OK or Not OK?

I run mine in the truck bed to have the ac going before I arrive if its hot out. I have never had them out in bad weather though. They had a good workout this week when Ike came through and knocked out all power. Who would have thought a hurricane in Ohio!

RE: Pilgrim Open Road

My opinion would also be to look at something else. Even though the dealer may say that they will take care of anything I would be skeptical about that. Sure they may fix/repair the little things but if anything more major happened I think they would tell you that you are on your own since they will not be getting their money back from the manufacturer. They do make some good units

RE: A little bleach won't hurt my grass, will it?

I did this last year. I kind of forgot that I had my hose draining on my lawn. Needless to say it did not kill the grass but I did have a nice patch of white grass for a long time! This was even after I realized my mistake and watered down that area after it happened.

How big of a solar panel to charge 1 battery

I would like to charge my battery using a solar panel but need some input. I did search the threads but most folks were not just trying to charge one battery so I gave up after about 30 pages. Currently I take my battery out of the fiver after our trips and put it in my garage with the battery minder, then the day before we leave somewhere I lug it back and start up the fridge or if I need to go and fix something or put junk back in it, I cant get to the back without the slide open and that won’t open without the battery. It would be nice if I could just keep the battery in the fiver, hook up a battery disconnect switch to eliminate any phantom draws and have a solar panel to keep the battery fully charged. This way even my wife could start up the fridge or open the slide when shes packing.
I am unsure of the size of the panel I would need. I have a single group 30 battery, I never go boondocking and the panel would be permanently mounted to the roof. I am in a storage lot with no shade so that’s not a problem. Can anyone give me some advice on what size/type of panel, controller etc… I see plenty of them for sale on ebay but don’t really know what to look for and what to stay away from.
My other question has to do with winter and solar panels. Since we do get some hail here every now and then how durable are the panels? Would they hold up to small to medium size hail or would it be better to make the panel on a rail of some sort and remove it for winter. I don’t plan on keeping the battery in the fiver over winter anyway. I have had hail that has dented my siding but has not broken any windows.

RE: Error 1722 - Microsoft S&T

I was thinking of upgrading my 2007 version and went out and googled some reviews of the 2008 version and all I could see was a bunch of folks that were having the same problem as you. Just do a search and maybe you can see how people were fixing there problem. I decided to keep the 2007 version. The problems people were having plus the ability to only load it on 2 computers kind of turned me away and I am a big fan of S&T.

RE: When to buy F450?

I've been thinking about buying one as well. I just figured I will always need the truck for the fiver so why not get one now when they are discounted. Talked to a dealer the other day and he could give me the price of 46k for the F450, job build #1 with the 4:88's. Sticker was 56. And this was without even arguing.
Even at 46 its pricey (at least for me) so I am waiting for you guys to talk me out of it!!

RE: There should be a law!!

I am really sorry I started this thread. Some get it, some do not.
If the dealer buys it from me for 30, 5 goes to new camper, 25 goes to bank. They pay it off, not me. I never see that 25. Then, they want ME to finance additional 25K to pay it off on top of everything else. This way the dealer gets my camper for 5K. What is so hard to understand.
Here is what they wan
New camper 50K
Trade 30K
Bal owed 25K
Positive equity 5K
Bal on new camper 45K
Here is where they want to rip me off
Add old bal to new loan 25K
New bal on new camper 70K!!!
Do we all get it now???
I hate to say this but I think you are the one who does not get it. If you would have let the dealer finish the paperwork you would see how it all works out. They would have showed you 50k (new) + 25k (old) - 30k (trade) = 45k thats how it works. Be serious, do you honestly think someone goes to the dealer and buys a rig for 50 and gets a loan for 75?

Need help in rear rotor replacement on 02 f350

Okay guys I need your help. My brakes are pulsating and I replaced the front pads and rotors so now I have to do the rear. I have never done the rears before and wasn't sure with the parking brake. So here are my questions:
1). Does the parking brake have shoes that are inside the rotor hub?
2). If I remove the caliper does the rotor come off just like the fronts?
3). Can I just compress the piston with a C clamp or do the pistons turn and I need a special tool.
I have a 2002 F350 SRW and any help or words of wisdom would be appreciated

RE: Send Google Maps to Garmin

I have a TomTom and it does not send the map- only the address as others have said. I use a program called Tyre (Take Your Route Exerywhere)that will transfer the route (waypoints) to my tomtom. Take a look it may also transfer to a garmin

RE: portable gen in truck bed

Is there a problem running the generator in the bed? -> No I run my honda twins in the bed, sometimes if its hot before I get to the campsite I run them going down the road to run the ac and get it cooled down
Do you run the cord all the way around to the back plug in or wire to the gen prep? -> I have a 30 ft extension that runs under the fiver along the rails and comes out by the pin box. If I want to use the gennys in the bed I just plug it in
I have a slider hitch in a short bed, that make any difference? -> No I also have a slider and shortbed
Does the exhaust get too hot? -> Mine never has
Another note is like another poster has said it is louder runing them in the bed then out in the open. If they are running while going down the road I cant hear them at all. If I stop for the night (rest area-walmart (oh no)) I can hear them in the bedroom running even with the ac on but it doesnt bother me too much I guess since I do fall asleep. Before I get yelled yet from others..I have 2 detectors and 1 is in the bedroom up front
Hope it helped ya

RE: converter boxes

I was like you and researched a few of them and they all seemed about the same. They all had to follow the gov specs so they are prety similar I think. I also bought the walmart one for 49.99 and tried it out and it worked just fine for me.

RE: TV Converter Box Coupon

Got mine already and went to Walmart and picked it up. It was 49.99 and with the coupon, taxes etc.. it was like 13.00 total. Brought it home and tried it out and it worked fine for me. I only need it for the tv in the camper.

RE: ohio rest stops/campgrounds

Exit #91 (Hilliard-Rome Road) mentioned in the Cracker Barrel post above also has a Super Walmart and a Meijer (similar to a Super Walmart) along with just about every gas station and restaurant chain you can name, and all are close to the freeway along Hilliard-Rome just north of the exit.
If you decide to stay at exit #91, turn right (north) off the freeway, then right at the first traffic light (Trabue Road) for the Walmart and Cracker Barrel. Make another quick right off of Trabue on St. James Lutheran Way to get to the Cracker Barrel, which faces the freeway. Walmart will be on your left on Trabue just after you turn off Hilliard-Rome.
I know the Hilliard-Rome Super Walmart allows overnight parking and has 24 hour security patrolling the lot. They ask if you're going to park overnight that you park in the south end of the lot, in other words, along the Trabue Road end of the lot. The Cracker Barrel also has RV and truck parking on the backside of the restaurant.
Thats a good one. I live near there and go to that Walmart and there is always some rv's/trucks there

RE: ohio rest stops/campgrounds

Some of the rest stops have electric and water hook ups in Ohio. They also have dump stations. Its good for overnight but you have to leave by 10 AM (although I don't know why you would want to).
Check out the Ohio State Department of Transportation website for those stops with the overnight hookups.
I beleive that is only on the Ohio Turnpike and there are no hookups on the interstates

RE: Yellow Plastic Ramp for Changing trailer tire

I beleive there are 2 types of trailer aids with one specifically designed for rv's. The only difference is that they have about an inch of hard rubber where the tire sits to lift it higher and its black. Bought mine on on ebay and tested it out and it works for me lifting the tire off the gound with room to spare.
